Literacy courses in Basel
Here you will find our literacy courses in Basel for foreign-language speakers who cannot read or write at all or only with great difficulty, or who do not know the Latin alphabet.
Depending on their level, participants acquire or improve their reading and writing skills, learn the Latin alphabet and numbers, and develop phonological awareness. They will improve their oral communication skills for everyday life. Their ability to act will be enhanced, their learning strategies developed, and they will learn to use their linguistic resources appropriately.
ECAP Basel offers two different formats, which differ in the intensity of the course.
Intensive literacy
Semi-intensive literacy course with two lessons per day from 8.30am to 10am or 10.30am to 12pm, Monday to Friday. The course lasts eight weeks and comprises 80 lessons.
Standard literacy
Extensive literacy course with two two-hour lessons per week in the afternoon or evening. The course lasts 15 weeks and comprises 80 lessons. Childcare is available for participants in the afternoon courses.
Post-alpha courses
In both formats, we offer post-alpha courses after the basic levels ‘Alpha 1’, ‘Alpha 2’ and ‘Alpha 3’, which allow participants to complete the entire CEFR level A1. Newly literate participants can attend the follow-up courses ‘A1.1 nachalpha’, ‘A1.2 nachalpha’ and ‘A1.3 nachalpha’.
Free placement test
Your registration only becomes binding after the free placement test. We will assign you to the appropriate course level based on your level. This allows you to learn optimally in your group.
Free voucher for Basel-Stadt
Have you received a free voucher from the canton of Basel-Stadt? With this voucher, you can attend a course of 80 lessons free of charge. At ECAP Basel, you can use the voucher to attend the following course formats: intensive literacy, afternoon literacy or evening literacy.
