Course information

Contents
The fide test is based on the principles of the fide approach. This is reflected, for example, in the following special features:

• Candidates can demonstrate their language skills in everyday communicative situations;
• In the oral part, Swiss German accents are also accepted;
• The tasks are straightforward so that people without schooling or course experience are not disadvantaged;
• The test level does not have to be chosen in advance: it is determined during the test itself. Depending on the skills demonstrated, you will receive the result A1, A2 or B1.
Goals
The fide test can be used to demonstrate German language skills orally and in writing. It was developed on behalf of the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) specifically for everyday life in Switzerland. Oral and written skills are assessed separately; in the oral part, participants may also speak Swiss German. The levels achieved (A1, A2 or B1) can be presented with the language passport when looking for work, for naturalisation, or for a residence or settlement permit.
Procedure
The fide test consists of the parts "Speaking and Understanding" and "Reading Comprehension and Writing". It measures oral and written language skills separately, i.e. you can take either both parts or only one part. You will always receive a result, even if your language skills differ between the written and oral sections. You can repeat the fide test as a whole, or the oral part or the written part individually, as often as you like. The participation fee must be paid again each time.
Costs
CHF 250.00 complete exam, oral and written
CHF 170.00 oral only (Speaking and Understanding)
CHF 120.00 written only (Reading and Writing)
